Ortofon Super OM 5E Moving Magnet Phono Cartridge

The Super OM 5E sits at the top of Ortofon's OM 5 range and is the version to reach for if you want the series at its best. It carries an elliptical diamond with an 8/18 µm tip profile, which sits deeper and more accurately in the groove than a spherical tip, so treble detail is finer, sibilance is cleaner and inner groove tracking holds together far better on busy passages. Output is 4 mV into a standard 47 kOhm MM input, and recommended tracking force is a light 1.75 g.

The Super models add real engineering over the base OM 5. Computer modelling was used to locate the natural pivot point of the generator and balance its oscillation, which lifts linearity and channel separation while cutting distortion. Split pole pins reduce magnetic losses at the top end and extend frequency response to 22 kHz with better phase linearity, and the Noryl body keeps the whole assembly rigid and resonance free. The removable weight-plate is still there, so the cartridge can drop to 2.5 g for low mass tonearms.
