Hegel P30A Reference Preamplifier, Fully Balanced, 130dB SNR, SoundEngine

The Hegel P30A is Hegel's reference preamplifier, nicknamed The Conductor. The music signal passes through only two transistors and an ultra-low noise volume attenuator from input to output. Those transistors are hand-matched single-pair FETs, selected by Hegel's founder Bent Holter to have exactly identical values, eliminating higher-order harmonic distortion by design. The circuit is fully balanced from input to output, with two separate amplifiers, two volume controls, and two SoundEngine modules operating per channel. SoundEngine actively monitors the signal in real time using a feedforward design, identifying and correcting intermodulation distortion as it occurs. The result is a signal-to-noise ratio above 130dB in balanced mode and distortion below 0.005%, with a sound character that Stereopluss described as making music you thought you knew inside out sound new and fresh.

Inputs include two balanced XLR, three unbalanced RCA, and a fixed-level Home Theatre bypass that can also be configured as a standard input. Outputs include one balanced XLR and two unbalanced RCA, all active simultaneously, with one RCA configurable as a fixed-level output. A 3.5mm IR direct input and 12V trigger output complete the integration options. The volume attenuator used in the P30A is the same unit fitted inside the reference H600 integrated amplifier.
