Country of Origin:

The Stage 240H is the flexible speaker in JBL's Stage 2 Series, designed and engineered at Harman's Northridge acoustic centre in California and supplied as a pair. A switch on the back changes its whole role: set it one way and it works as a Dolby Atmos height module firing sound off the ceiling, set it the other and it becomes a standard wall-mounted surround or elevation speaker. It uses the same 4.5 inch polycellulose ribbed cone woofer and 1 inch anodised aluminium dome tweeter in an HDI waveguide as the 240B bookshelf, so it matches the rest of a Stage 2 system tonally.

The angled cabinet is the giveaway that this is a height speaker. Sit it on top of a Stage 260F or 280F floorstander, connect it to the dedicated Atmos posts on the tower, and it bounces Dolby Atmos effects off the ceiling to put sound above you without cutting into the ceiling. The anti-slip pad holds it in place up there. When you would rather mount it on the wall, keyhole slots and a quarter-inch insert let you fix it directly or use an aftermarket bracket, and the Atmos bypass switch reconfigures it for surround duty. It is a sealed cabinet, which is normal for a height and surround speaker where deep bass is handled elsewhere.

Why Consider the JBL Stage 240H

Adding Dolby Atmos usually means cutting speakers into the ceiling, which is a real job and often not allowed in a rented flat. The 240H avoids all of that. Its angled front fires up at the ceiling and reflects Atmos height effects back down to the listener, so you get overhead sound simply by placing it on top of your existing Stage 2 towers. The switch is what makes it worth the money though, since the same pair can instead serve as wall-mounted surrounds if your room or your processor calls for that. Buying one flexible speaker rather than committing to a single fixed role is the sensible way to build toward a full Atmos layout over time.

Ideal For

  • Adding Dolby Atmos height without ceiling speakers
  • Placement on top of Stage 260F or 280F floorstanders
  • Wall-mounted surround channels in a home theatre
  • Rented homes where ceiling installation is not possible
  • Stage 2 systems being expanded toward full Atmos
  • Listeners who want a switchable, future-proof surround speaker
