The McIntosh MA12000 is the most powerful integrated amplifier McIntosh builds, a hybrid design delivering 350 watts per channel into 2, 4 or 8 ohms. The constant power across all three impedances comes from McIntosh Autoformer outputs, which match the amplifier to the loudspeaker rather than letting power fall away as the load changes. Four 12AX7A vacuum tubes, two per channel, form the preamplifier stage ahead of a solid-state power amplifier, an arrangement McIntosh calls Hybrid Drive.

Seventeen inputs cover almost any source: two balanced and six unbalanced analogue, separate moving coil and moving magnet phono inputs with adjustable loading, two coaxial, two optical, USB, an MCT input for McIntosh SACD transports, and HDMI ARC for television audio. The factory-installed DA2 digital module is upgradeable, and handles PCM to 32-bit/384 kHz, DSD to DSD512 and DXD to 384 kHz. An 8-band analogue tone control, a high-drive headphone amplifier with HXD crossfeed, Power Guard, Sentry Monitor and the two McIntosh Blue watt meters complete the specification.
