The McIntosh MT5 is a complete belt-driven turntable package supplied with a Sumiko Amethyst high-output moving magnet cartridge already installed, and with tracking force, anti-skate, cartridge overhang and arm height all preset at the factory. A DC motor with stainless steel brushes and servo speed control drives a silicon acrylic platter on a magnetically suspended ceramic bearing, covering 33-1/3, 45 and 78 rpm.
The platter is illuminated, giving the deck its distinctive glow, and a platter light and fine speed adjustment sit alongside it. The custom tonearm uses a dural-aluminium arm tube on magnetic sapphire and ceramic bearings, with magnetic anti-skate, an eccentric counterweight and adjustment for vertical tracking angle, anti-skate and azimuth. The Sumiko Amethyst delivers 2.5 mV at 5 cm/s through a nude line contact diamond on an aluminium cantilever, into a standard 47 kilohm moving magnet input. A clear form-fitting dust cover is included.

Why Consider the McIntosh MT5
The MT5 arrives ready to play. Cartridge alignment, tracking force, anti-skate and arm height are all set at the factory, which removes the setup work that usually stands between buying a turntable and listening to it. The Sumiko Amethyst is a high-output moving magnet cartridge at 2.5 mV into a standard 47 kilohm input, so it works with any ordinary phono stage rather than requiring the specialised moving coil loading the MT10 needs. A dust cover is included, which matters in practice and is often an extra at this level.
