The speaker’s two sets of transducers operate in a bi-polar configuration, which maximizes the speaker’s timbre match with that of other Revel Performa3 speakers and further integrates the entire system’s sound into a spacious, enveloping surround-sound environment.

The S206 tweeters feature an integrated acoustic lens waveguide that is based on a breakthrough mathematical approach that accurately matches the tweeters’ dispersion to that of the low-frequency transducers in the crossover region. This gives the loudspeaker very smooth sound far off-axis – an important contributor to overall sound quality, providing consistent sound over an exceptionally wide listening area.

In fact, this new waveguide actually increases the tweeter’s dispersion at higher frequencies. The S206 enclosure features strategically-oriented bracing that eliminates the possibility of enclosure-induced coloration.

A lot of high-end speaker companies are so focused on 2-channel sound that they don't even make surround speakers. But Revel designed the Performa3 S206 surround speaker to be a perfect sonic match for the company's acclaimed Performa3 floor-standing and bookshelf models. The speaker's dual sets of drivers operate in a bi-polar configuration, creating a spacious, enveloping surround sound bubble.

Custom-designed drivers deliver detailed sound
Revel designs and builds every driver that goes into their speakers. The S206 has dual 6-1/2" aluminum cone woofers, and two 1" aluminum dome tweeters that use Revel's proprietary acoustic lens/waveguide combo to increase dispersion at higher frequencies. The result is smooth, diffuse sound that's hard to locate. Just what you want from a surround speaker.

The S206 loudspeaker can be placed in either a side surround or back surround location. The speaker's radiation pattern is optimized for placement to the side of the primary listening position in a 5.1-channel home theater setup, and for side- and rear-wall placement for a 7.1 system.

Tested by instrument and by ear
Revel's world-class speaker design and testing facility features an anechoic chamber and the latest high-tech measurement gear. But some of their most critical test instruments are the ears of their trained listening panel. When working on a new design, Revel's engineers set up a series of controlled auditions comparing their design to several competing speakers.

Speakers under comparison sit on a rotating platform, and each model is moved into the identical position by a computer-controlled belt drive system. An acoustically transparent screen hides the speakers from the listeners to avoid visual bias. These double-blind listening tests provide an essential reality check, and help the engineers correlate measurements with what listeners actually hear and prefer.
