The Michi Q5 is a combined CD transport and digital to analogue converter. Disc playback uses a top-loading mechanism machined from CNC aluminium, while conversion is handled by an ESS SABRE ES9028PRO 32-bit/768 kHz 8-channel DAC configured with four channels dedicated to each stereo channel. Fully balanced circuitry and dual toroidal transformers keep total harmonic distortion below 0.0006%.

The Q5 also functions as a standalone DAC for external sources. Coaxial and optical inputs accept LPCM up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and PC-USB supports 32-bit/384 kHz PCM, native DSD to 11.2 MHz and MQA decoding. A full-colour TFT front panel displays CD album artwork, and RS232 and Ethernet ports allow integration with control systems.

Why Consider the Michi Q5

Buying a transport and a DAC separately means two chassis, two power supplies and an interface between them. The Q5 removes that interface entirely for disc playback while still accepting three external digital sources, so a streamer, a television and a computer can all route through the same converter. The 4.9 V balanced output is high enough to drive a power amplifier directly in systems where the Q5 is the only source.
